Advanced Life Support (ALS) Committee Charge
Purpose: Complete a comprehensive review of the current level of service for Advanced Life Support (ALS). Study all alternative methods of providing ALS services while ensuring quality care and cost effectiveness. Make recommendations to the Board of Selectmen regarding the provision of this service.
During the summer of 2003, Wayland and other communities lost the services of Natick P-1, which operated out of the MetroWest Medical Center. As a result, Wayland entered into a one-year contract with American Medical Response (AMR) for ALS and Paramedic service. AMR provides this service to the town as an available service vs. a dedicated unit.
Charge: How to best provide prompt, efficient and safe pre-hospital care. Review a broad range of options to insure that Wayland residents and others cointinue to receive safe, reliable and cost effective ALS. Explore with Lincoln, Sudbury, Concord, and Weston the concept of a fire department based, shared, regional ot other cooperative ALS service.
Appointed by: Board of Selectmen
Membership: One representative from the medical community, the Wayland Fire Department, a public health professional, a citizen, a member of the Board of Selectmen, a previous member of the Finance Committee, and a senior citizen. The Chief of the Wayland Fire Department will serve as an adviser and support staff.
Conditions: Report monthly in wirting and/or before the Board. a final recommendation shall be prepared and presented to the Board by March 1, 2004.
