DEPUTY DIRECTOR/WEST SUBURBAN VETERANS’ SERVICES DISTRICT
The West Suburban Veterans’ Services District (WSVSD) is made up of the following communities; Needham, Wayland, Wellesley and Weston. Under the general supervision of the Director, this part-time (two days per week) position is responsible for providing benefits and services to veterans and their families who meet eligibility requirements. As a Veterans’ Agent, under MGL Ch. 115, the incumbent is responsible for taking applications for veterans’ benefits for qualified needy veterans and their dependents, in accordance with State Regulations (CMR #108); processing veterans’ benefits applications through state and federal organizations; preparing reports to account for funds; and filing reports to state agencies to acquire
reimbursements. The incumbent participates in the activities and programs of the WSVSD and supports the Director as required to maintain the WSVSD's continued efforts to maintain a high standard of service to veterans and their families and to be available for other duties needed.
Requirements:
- Must be an Honorably Discharged Veteran.
- Thorough knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing veterans’ programs and services.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public; maintain accurate records; and possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
- Ability to counsel veterans and their families effectively.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel independently to assignments.
