A petition containing 397 validated signatures from citizens requesting a Special Town Meeting to be called within 45 calendar days was filed on October 7. Two proposed articles were submitted with the petition. The Board of Selectmen has scheduled the Special Town Meeting on Thursday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wayland Middle School gymnasium. Under state law, the Warrant for any special town meeting must be open for 7 calendar days to allow any citizen or town board the opportunity to submit an article for consideration by the town
meeting. Selectmen opened the Warrant beginning Wednesday, October 12 at 8:30 a.m. through Tuesday, October 18 at 4:30 p.m.
Selectmen voted to insert an article on October 11 regarding funding sources for FY2012 budget, increasing the amount funded by undesignated fund balance ("free cash") by $1,000,000 and decreasing the amount raised by taxation by the same amount.
On October 18, petitioners submitted an article to direct the selectmen to utilize electronic voting for all sessions of town meetings through calendar year 2014. Petitioners indicated they would seek $135,000 to fund this initiative.
The text of the four articles is available here.
