WPD Officer Christopher Custodie promoted to the rank of Sergeant
On Monday, January 8, 2017, at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting, Officer Christopher Custody was formally sworn in and promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Sergeant Custodie was hired by the Wayland Police Department as a Patrol Officer in 2012. Prior to being hired by the Wayland Police, Sgt. Custodie served for 6 years in the United States Marine Corps. In 2004 he was deployed to Iraq where he was a Team Leader for convoy operations. While serving in the Marines, he attained the rank of Sergeant.

Since the first day of his law enforcement career, Sergeant Custodie has displayed leadership qualities and earned the respect of all of his co-workers and supervisors. As a new officer, Sgt. Custodie became a member of the Honor Guard.  He used his military training and worked with team members to exhibit high levels of proficiency in drill and ceremony.

Sergeant Custodie is one of the department’s Field Training Officers.  As a Field Training Officer, he works with new officers, teaching them to apply what they’ve learned in the police academy.  He is a role model for new officers and represents what a police officer should be.

Sergeant Custodie is also a Mountain Bike Officer, Firearms Instructor, and Department Armorer.

Sergeant Custodie is dedicated to Community Policing.  He will often volunteer his time and come in on a day off to participate in community events.

Sergeant Custodie is committed to education and professional development.  In 2016 he received a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.

Sergeant Custodie possesses the experience, knowledge, education, leadership and compassion to be a Sergeant and part of the leadership team of the Wayland Police Department.
