Veterans or family members, please pass the word that each Veteran resident in Wayland should provide a copy of their discharge papers (DD214) so that they will be kept on file in the Veterans' Office for current and future benefits to which the veteran is entitled. If you have lost or misplaced your discharge papers, please come to my office on Wednesday mornings, or call and I will request a replacement for you.
Case in point: we had several veterans requesting burial at a State or National Cemetery, and the family members could not locate the deceased Veterans' discharge papers which are required for admittance to the cemeteries.
Any Reservist or National Guardsman who is activated for post 9/11 duty, stays on active duty for more than 90 days, and receives a discharge under honorable conditions, will be a veteran under Massachusetts Law.
