TOWN WIDE HYDRANT FLUSHING NOTICE
Monday April 17th
As part of our ongoing effort to improve water quality the Water Division will conduct its Fire Hydrant Flushing Program beginning on Monday April 17, 2017. Flushing will begin in the area of the Reeves Hill Water Tank. It will take approximately six (6) weeks to flush the 100 miles of water distribution mains.
Fire Hydrant Flushing will be performed at night between the hours of 10:00pm and 5:00am Sunday – Thursday to minimize the impact to our customers. Some customers may experience discolored or “rusty” looking water. The discolored water is caused by naturally occurring iron minerals that disturbed during the flushing process. These non-health threatening minerals may cause staining of laundry and plumbing fixtures.
If you have any questions, please contact the DPW office at 508-358-3674.
WATER BAN UPGRADE
August 17, 2016
Effective immediately, The Water Division is upgrading its level of Water Use Restriction to the following:
- Underground sprinklers & above ground sprinklers attached to hoses: Underground and above ground sprinkler use is prohibited until the termination of the Water Ban.
- Handheld Hose: Handheld hose watering is permitted after 5:00pm.
On August 12th, The Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs upgraded the Drought Status for the Northeast Region of the State to a Drought Warning. Areas within the Drought Warning, including Wayland, are currently experiencing precipitation levels 5 to 8 inches below normal. Our Water System is currently keeping up with daily water demand, but the ground water levels measured at our sources are below normal.
The increase in water use restrictions is vital to ensure the supply of potable drinking water and to provide water for fire protection.
