Public Housing
The WHA manages 25 low and moderate-income HUD family public
housing units in Wayland. These units are scattered sites and are
virtually indistinguishable from the surrounding neighborhood.
There are 15 single-family units and 5 two-family units. Two units
are barrier free.

The WHA administers 77 HUD Section 8 Rental Vouchers that aid
low and moderate-income families in obtaining affordable housing in
private rental units. The income limits are the same as the HUD
family income limits listed above. When Participants find an
apartment in the private sector that meets HUD housing quality
standards, the WHA pays the difference between 30 percent of the
participant's gross monthly income and the Payment Standard.
Participants pay rent above the Payment Standard.

FAMILY SELF-SUFFICIENCY PROGRAM (FSS)
The WHA administers 25 FSS Section 8
Vouchers. The goal of this program is to help families work toward
economic independence and self-sufficiency. Each participant is
assigned a caseworker. The WHA deposits funds in each Participant’s
escrow account matching increases in earned income. These funds
become theirs when they successfully complete the program.
