WHA POLICIES
WAITING LISTS
Separate waiting lists are in place for each program. When a
vacancy occurs, the next applicant is selected from the list in
accordance with stipulated priorities and preferences.
PLACEMENT RATE
Because housing is a limited resource, the wait for housing
assistance varies from one year or more depending on the vacancy
rate.
EMERGENCY CASES
Unfortunately, the WHA does not have the
resources to provide immediate housing in an emergency case. The WHA
gives priority to Bent Park applicants only, who are displaced by
natural forces, displaced by public action, displaced due to
enforcement of the State Sanitary Code, homeless or about to be
homeless, facing direct threat to health to life or safety, severe
medical emergencies or in abusive situations.
WAYLAND RESIDENT PREFERENCE
Preference is given to all applicants who:
·
Live
or work in Wayland (all programs).
·
Have
resided in the town within five years immediately prior to the time
of application (federal programs).
·
Wayland METCO families (federal programs).
·
Applicants with an immediate family currently residing in Wayland
(federal Programs).
TO OBTAIN AN APPLICATION
Call, write or stop by the office, which is located at
106 Main St. We
recommend applying for all programs which are appropriate for you.
If you have any questions or need help in filling out an
application, feel free to call our staff.
INCOME AND ASSET LIMITS
Income limits vary by program listed in this brochure. There
is no asset limitation for WHA housing programs, but the interest
(or imputed interest) from all assets along with all other income
cannot exceed the income limitations for that program. This
includes interest calculated on the market value of any
assets/property disposed of within the past 36 months or that is
currently owned.
RENT
Rent is calculated
at 30% of adjusted gross monthly income.
REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION
If you believe you need an accommodation or
modification based on a handicap or disability, contact the WHA in
order to discuss what we can do in order to accommodate your
handicap or disability. A handicap or disability is a physical or
mental condition which substantially limits a person in a "major
life activity." The WHA is required to make whatever reasonable
accommodation possible to permit a reasonably full use and enjoyment
of a unit and its associated facilities.
NONDISCRIMINATION
The WHA, in compliance with federal and
state law and with respect for diversity among people with and
affected by the WHA, forbids discrimination on the basis of age,
class, color, creed, income, marital or family status (including the
presence of children), national or ethnic origin, race, religion,
sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status.
