Pod Meadow

Pod Meadow Map

About Pod Meadow:

  • Comprised of 32 acres Pod Meadow provides a walk through Eastern White Pine on the South end of the property transitioning to mixed old growth forest (Eastern White Pine, American Beech, White and Red Oak) throughout the rest of the property.
  • The base of the property surrounding the 3 small ponds is a fairly easy .2 miles walk.  However the rest of the trail systems bring you to the bottom of the property and is a more strenuous walk consisting of .3 miles of trails.  The trail distances vary depending on which side you access from but the walk is all downhill either way.

Parking and Trail Access:

  • There is one parking area off Old Connecticut Path marked by a new sign saying “Pod Meadow”.
  • Heading South on Old Connecticut Path parking is directly after 418 Old Connecticut Path.
  • Heading North on Old Connecticut Path parking is directly after 426 Old Connecticut Path.
  • Pod Meadow can also be reached by parking along Wallace Rd then following the aqueduct .17 miles on the south side you will see an opening in a chain link fence and a blaze orange trail marker noted the entrance that joins the rest of the trail system.

Other:

  • As you enter the trail from the Old Connecticut Path parking area you will notice the remains of a non-prescribed forest fire that burned up 5 acres.  The fire took place on March 9th 2016.
  • Late February through early April then again in late September through freeze up small numbers of waterfowl can reliably be found in the ponds.  Early morning is best.
  • Northern Rough-winged Swallows gather on the ponds in appreciable numbers before heading south.
  • American Beavers are active on property.  Look for them at dawn and dusk when they are most active.
