Plastic Bag Information

Governor Baker lifted the ban on plastic bags, and instead banned reusable bags. The Wayland local ban on single-use plastic bags is suspended until further notice. Do not bring reusable shopping bags to stores.

Food Pantries, Help with Groceries and Essential Needs

The Town is working closely with the Town's food pantries, some of which are affiliated with The Greater Boston Food Bank to provide food to Wayland residents. The Health Department has reviewed safe packing and delivery protocols with each pantry in Wayland. Any Wayland individual or family with a self-identified need will be included.  

Residents may have a financial need, others may be uncomfortable leaving the house for the essential purpose of going to the grocery store, and some residents are themselves or have family members with compromised health and should not leave the house during this public health emergency.The Town’s CORI checked volunteers deliver food each Wednesday morning.  All information is kept confidential.

Project Bread provides referrals to local food assistance programs and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) application support.   The SNAP program is available to anyone in need of food assistance during the COVID-19 crisis.  Anyone in need of assistance is encouraged to contact the FoodSource Hotline at 1-800-645-8333.   This statewide toll-free number offers assistance in 160 different languages.

FoodSource Hotline counselors refer callers to food resources in their community as well as provides them with information about school meals, summer meal sites for kids, elder meals programs, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). When relevant, they also connect callers with utility, fuel assistance, and MassHealth. All information is kept strictly confidential.
The FoodSource Hotline can also serve the hearing impaired community through its TTY line, 1-800-377-1292.

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (P.L. 116-127) (FFCRA or the Act) authorized a temporary assistance program for households with children affected by school closures during the public health emergency that was declared on January 27, 2020.

The Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will issue P-EBT benefits to current Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) households and non-SNAP households, which include children eligible for free and reduced-price school meals, through the State’s SNAP EBT card system.
