Position Title:                         DPW Heavy Equipment Operator/SR Grounds Worker

Department:                            Department of Public Works

Full Time/hours:                      40 hours / week

Description of Position:

The Town of Wayland seeks qualified candidates for DPW Heavy Equipment Operator with the Department of Public Works.  This position performs a variety of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled manual work associated with the maintenance, repair and construction of DPW assets.  Works under the direct and general supervision of a designated Foreman or Superintendent.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  At least three (3) years of related experience in public works, at least 1 year required the operation of heavy equipment as referenced in this job description.  

Licenses/Certificates:  Must have and maintain a valid Class B CDL license; Class A CDL preferred.  Must have a valid Class 2B Hoisting License, 2A Hoisting License preferred, Must have and maintain Massachusetts Pesticide License TBD.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:  Through knowledge of the operation of Class B CDL vehicles, loaders, excavators and heavy equipment.  Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools and maintenance equipment.  Ability to read, understand and adhere to applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.  Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a crew member.

Physical Requirements: Frequent moderate to strenuous physical effort required to perform duties under variable conditions, with some exposure to occupation risks.  Occasionally required to push/pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds; occasionally required to comfortably lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Position Title:                                    Assistant Beach Director - Seasonal

Department:                                      Recreation Department

Full - Time:                                        40 hours/week for up to 18 weeks from May to Sept. 2024

Description of position:

Works under the supervision of Recreation Department staff and the Beach Aquatic Director to ensure the safety of Town Beach patrons. Performs routine to complex administrative support, clerical and record keeping work relating to the successful daily operation of the Wayland Town Beach. This is a seasonal position begins in May and ends in September 2024. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:

Prior Lifeguarding Experience required.  Must have knowledge of all rules and regulations pertaining to safe waterfront operations.

The Town of Wayland seeks qualified candidates for Camp Counselor positions.  Camp Counselors supervise and effectively lead a group of campers through daily camp style activities, while providing a safe and nurturing environment. The Counselor serves as a mentor to the group of campers and staff and provides campers with safe, fun, activities that allow campers to thrive emotionally and physically. The Town of Wayland seeks qualified candidates for a seasonal Lifeguard / Head Lifeguard position. The Lifeguard performs all activities associated with pool safety; supervises, trains, and schedules staff to insure the safety of all pool patrons.  Work is both supervisory and of a participatory nature, requiring thorough knowledge of water safety and departmental operations.  In the absence of the Aquatic Director, will perform administrative and supervisory work in managing the daily operation.

Description of Position:     

The Town of Wayland seeks qualified applications for the part-time seasonal Water Safety Instructor/Boating Instructor position.  The WSI/Boating Instructor will develop and execute lesson plans that include dry land and In-the-water drills and inclement weather activities in a professional manner.  Candidates will exhibit the basic educational and leadership skills inherent to expose students to the fundamentals of the sport of swimming and boating. Position is responsible for ensuring the safety of Town Beach swimmers and lesson participants.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:

Must be an experienced swimmer, preferably with some instruction experience. Ability to maintain discipline and command respect from the general public. Ability to function as part of a team with the beach staff. Instructors must be enthusiastic about the sport of swimming. Knowledge and respect of the rules and regulations of Lake Cochituate and the Wayland Town Beach and be able to enforce them preferred.

Licenses/Certificates:

  • Current WSI preferred
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Lifeguard certification preferred

Description of Position:

The Town of Wayland seeks part-time contract Minute Taker(s) to prepare minutes for several Boards and Committees. This is a remote contract position with a flexible schedule.  The Minute Take is responsible for watching/listening to recorded Board & Committee meetings and prepare meeting minutes in a timely manner. 

Specific duties include:

  • Watch recorded meetings, prepare minutes in accordance with the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law.
  • Ensure all minutes are comprehensive and accurate with correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, arrangement and format.

Position Title:                                    Epidemiologist – Temporary Assignment

Description of Position:

The Great Meadows Public Health Collaborative seeks a motivated candidate for an Epidemiologist to conduct timely and complete reportable infectious disease investigations. The Epidemiologist is responsible for reporting the status of infectious disease case/cluster investigations, support for individuals with expressed challenges observing infectious disease isolation and quarantine instructions, conducting timely and complete analyses of local and regional data to describe infectious disease trends.  This role also supports other core local health activities, including assistance with qualitative and quantitative analysis and development of a final report for a Health Equity Needs Assessment project that covers seven (7) municipalities.

Description of position:

The Town of Wayland seeks a part-time Library Clerk in the Wayland Public Library. Hours are available in both our Adult and Children’s Departments. Up to 17 hours per week. The majority of hours will be on evenings and weekends, but there may be some weekday hours as well. Performs various tasks relating to the circulation of materials, including but not limited to checking books in and out, assigning new library cards to patrons, and other duties as necessary. Strong customer service experience is a plus.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required. Experience in a circulation department especially in a children’s room of a public library preferred. Familiarity with Sierra software preferred. Possesses a demonstrated ability to interact with all ages with patience and discretion, as well as excellent organizational talents and attention to detail.
