Overview
The Wayland Town Beach is one of Wayland’s cherished venues that Wayland residents enjoy year round. Our Beach offers sun and fresh water swimming on Lake Cochituate. During the season, our beach has lifeguards and the water quality is tested weekly by the Board of Health. Members can enjoy family events, boat rentals, boating and swimming lessons, and our complimentary lounge chairs. Boat rentals start at $20 per hour and include kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddle-boards, and pedal boats.

NOTE: Please know that many people arrive at Wayland Town Beach via means other than car - some walk, bike, Uber and even swim over! So our parking lot capacity doesn’t necessarily dictate the beach capacity.

Holiday Restrictions
- Memorial Day Weekend: Friday, May 24 - Monday, May 27
- July Fourth Weekend: Thursday, July 4 through Sunday, July 7.
Holiday admittance is restricted to:
- Wayland residents
who have purchased a 2024 season pass OR a day pass, and their guests - All Season Beach Pass Holders
(Wayland / Non-Wayland), and their guests - Pass holders must remain present with guests at all times.
- No Season Passes will be sold at the Beach Gate May 24- 27or July 4-7. Must Purchase online.
About Lake Cochituate
- Lake consists of three linked ponds known as North Pond, Middle Pond, and South Pond reaching Natick, Wayland, and Framingham, Massachusetts.
- Wayland Town Beach is located on the shores of North Pond.
- Lake Cochituate is a 625 acre body of water, approximately 70 feet deep at it's deepest point.
- Lake Cochituate was created by the construction of Lake Cochituate Dam to provide a reservoir for water supply to the City of Boston; it no longer serves that function, and is now a local recreational resource.
Rent a Boat
- Canoe, Kayak, Double Kayak, Pedal Boats, and Paddle Boards are available for rent
- Boat rentals start at $20.00 per hour
- Must first demonstrate ability to swim
- Parents must accompany children under 14 on the water. More info regarding minors and boats.
- All boat renters must sign waiver.
Boat Ramp - Public Access to Lake Cochituate
- Adjacent to the Town Beach is a small access path for NON-motorized crafts (kayaks, paddleboards, sailboats, canoes, etc.)
- There is no public boat ramp for motorized watercraft accessible via Wayland Town Beach, visit access points at DCR's Cochituate State Park and areas of Middle and South Pond.
- Speed Limit is 5 mph Saturdays, Sundays and holidays and within 150 feet of ramp, shore, moorings, swim area. 22 mph Weekdays.
- No Towing of a person(s) in the water or on any apparatus on North Lake. Water-skiing/Tubing allowed only in South Lake only.
- No Swimming in the Boat Launch Area, use marked swim areas only. No Swimming/Diving off boats.
- No Boating after dark.
- No Parking at the Boat Launch. - Check in with the beach staff to get a parking spot in the lot.
