Town Manager Search Committee Charge

The Town of Wayland will soon begin the search process for selecting the next Town Manager. As part of this process, Wayland will be hosting a community forum to give residents the opportunity to provide input that will be used to develop a recruitment profile for the Town. 

Wayland has contracted with GovHR USA to assist in the search process. Further updates will be made on this page as more information becomes available.

Timeline for Town Manager Search:

August 15 and August 29Consultant discusses proposed timeline, and recruitment process with Select Board.
August 15 - September 16Consultant works with Town to gather information to develop the recruitment profile and professional announcement. Community Forum date – September 7.
Week of September 19Consultant sends professional advertisement, position profile, and ad sources to Town for review and approval. 
Week of September 26GovHR develops position brochure.
Week of September 26Consultant places ads for position and starts recruiting candidates.
October 28Deadline for resumes.
October 28 to November 23Consultant reviews resumes, interviews candidates via Zoom, conducts background reviews, due diligence, etc. Consultant narrows field to 8-10 candidates for further consideration.
Week of December 5Consultant submits Recruitment Report to Town.
By December 16Consultant meets with the Screening Committee, to review candidates and select candidates for the interview process.
Late December or JanuaryTown conducts interview process.
February or March 2023New Town Manager commences employment.

RE:  Town Manager Screening Committee Charge

 

At their regularly scheduled Select Board meeting on October 3rd , 2022, the Wayland Select Board unanimously approved the following charge for the newly appointed Town Manager Screening Committee:

The Select Board created the Town Manager Screening Committee at its September 19, 2022 to assist in selecting the inaugural Town Manager.  The charge was confirmed at the October 3, 2022 meeting.

The Screening Committee will work with the search consultant GovHR USA to review, interview, and select 2-5 of the most qualified candidates (unranked) to serve Wayland.  The Select Board will interview the selected candidates.

The Screening Committee will use the Select Board/Town Manager Act, the position profile, and the community profile to guide its work and selection of final candidates.  The Committee is bound by the Open Meeting Law and will be disbanded by the Select Board when its work is complete.

The Select Board chose seven residents to serve on the Screening Committee:
