Our Camp Team

Camp Staff

ABOUT OUR CAMPS We choose to license our camps with the Board of Health and adhere to Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations even though most municipal camps are exempt from this. We do this to ensure that our camps meet the same standards that parents expect from other high-quality summer camps.

WE LOVE CAMP.
We live camp, too. Wayland Recreation camps come to you with ton of camp expertise. Our camp team has worked in all levels of camping. Our Wayland Rec Camp Director has a master’s degree in child development, and our preschool camp is led by high-level certified Massachusetts Department of Early Education & Care (EEC) personnel who have decades of experience. Wayland's Recreation Director has been running summer camps for over 20 years (day camps, sports camps, sleepaway camps), and also accredits and educates camps all over New England with the American Camp Association

We consider the selection of our staff to be our most important responsibility as directors. We select sensitive and enthusiastic individuals who are dedicated to working with children.  Our staff team is comprised of great people who are also students, teachers, athletes, coaches, nurses, artists, scientists, and even parents. The average age of our staff is over 26 years, and among them there are many years of dedication and service in education systems and youth organizations.

TRAINING & SCREENING
Our staff undergo 30 to 40 hours of mandatory trainings that involve an in depth examination of program policies, emergency procedures, group work, curriculum planning, behavior management, bully prevention, team building, service learning, character building and child development. Training and Certifications in Safety, CPR & AED and Basic First Aid are mandatory. All staff submit a Written Application with work history and references and are screened, interviewed and background checked prior to hire. All staff are then background Camp Staffchecked through the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check & Sexual Offender Registry Information (SORI) check and US Dept of Justice National Sex Offender Public Website.
