Town Beach

POLICIES & RULES.

SWIMMING 
Safety is our primary concern. Personal flotation devices can encourage a false sense of security. Children may venture into deeper water than comfortable and become unable to maneuver back to shallow water. Children & parents become dependent on personal flotation devices. Parents may not supervise children as closely or carefully. Swimming lessons are the best measures a parent can take to prevent drowning. Remember, drownings often occur in shallow water, while a parent is present.

  • All bathers must stay within marked swimming area.
  • No swimming in from any watercraft that is outside the beach’s swim rope lines.
  • No swimming under the docks.

INFLATABLES are NOT allowed at any time on the beach. US Coast Guard approved inflatable watercrafts may be used at the boat launch area. All persons on these watercrafts must wear a USCG approved life jackets or PFDs.

PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICES (PFDs) that are US Coast Guard Types I , II and III are allowed for children under 12 years, disabled persons, or anyone qualifying under Christian’s Law MGL c. 111, §127A½ . Must not be inflatable; Hybrids acceptable. Must fit appropriately. All PFDs and Noodles MUST be used in designated swimming areas, and MUST be accompanied by an adult. 

NO FLOATS or other devices such as throwable floatation devices, kickboards, snorkels, masks, fins (except for training purposes) or diving tanks, etc.

NO RUNNING or HORSEPLAY on the docks.

LIFEGUARD WHISTLE WARNINGS

  • (1) ONE LONG (HELD): Guard going in for a rescue
  • (2) ONE SHORT: Guard getting attention of a swimmer
  • (3) TWO SHORT: Guard sitting, getting attention of another guard
  • (4) TWO LONG: Guard standing, getting attention of Beach Patrol
  • (5) THREE SHORT: CLEAR THE WATER IMMEDIATELY

NO SMOKING

NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

HOLES dug in the sand must be refilled before digger departs.

SPORTS No ball playing except in areas designated by the Town Beach Staff. (Volleyball, Tetherbal, Basketball, etc.)


DOGS

  • Dogs, pets or other animals are NOT allowed on the sand/picnic areas of Wayland Town Beach or the picnic grove at any time, year round.
  • Dogs are allowed to be and to swim in the public boat launch area ONLY in the off season, Oct 1 to April 1

In the Off-Season, to ensure an enjoyable parks experience for all visitors, we requests that all dog owners observe the following rules and etiquette while recreating with dogs at Town Beach property.

  • Dogs are not allowed in designated human swimming areas of Town Beach at any time.
  • Dogs are not allowed on the beach, sand, playground, picnic area or other common areas.
  • Dogs are allowed in the boat launch area and to swim in the boat launch area, from October 1 to April 1 only.
  • Dogs MUST be leashed with an owner/handler on site.
  • Dog waste MUST be picked up and removed by the owner. Always clean up after your dog(s) and carry out waste or dispose of it in an appropriate receptacle. Do not leave it on the ground, sand, lake or other areas.
  • Make sure your dog is wearing a collar with current tags for license and rabies vaccine.

ETIQUETTE Unless invited, do not allow your dog, even if friendly, to approach other dogs or people, who may not desire such contact. Keep dogs under effective control at all times and make sure they do not engage in aggressive behavior. Visitors who do not abide by these rules may be subject to eviction from the park and/ or receive a fine.

SERVICE ANIMALS Service and medical support animals, when acting within a service capacity, are allowed at Town Beach.

WILDLIFE: feeding of Gulls, Geese, Ducks, water animals or wildlife is strictly forbidden.

CHILDREN under 11 years must be accompanied at the beach by a beach patron 15 years or older. Any child 4 years old or younger must have a responsible person over 15 years old in the water with them at all times.

INFANTS AND TODDLERS Children who are not toilet trained must be properly attired and must wear a swim diaper or rubber pants in the water. Changing tables are available in restrooms. Soiled diapers must be disposed of properly.

BICYCLES must be placed in the bicycle rack provided.

SOLICITING No person may conduct any business or commercial calling, trade, sell or otherwise deal commodities or merchandise of any description; or solicit patronage of any sort; or advertise any such business or calling for the sale of such commodities or merchandise; or hold any public meeting. No person may solicit contributions, signatures, or any other means or support for any purpose or cause.

LITTER: All refuse is to be discarded in containers provided or removed from the beach. 

PICNIC GROVE AREA

  • No Propane Grills
  • Fires are to be lit ONLY in designated charcoal grills and ONLY for cooking purposes.
  • Extinguish all fires before leaving the area at least 30 minutes prior to closing.
  • Please place all trash in containers provided.
  • Dispose of Ash properly.
  • NO Glass containers
  • No swimming or wading in the area in front of or beside the Picnic Grove.
  • MEMBERS ONLY can reserve for groups over 10 or more people through the Recreation Office.

WEATHER

  • Rain, Wind & High Temperatures : Weather closings will be at the discretion of the Recreation Department and published on waylandrec.com and the Wayland Town Beach Facebook page.
  •  Thunder/Lightning – Beach will be cleared, and must remain thunder/lightning free for minimum 30 minutes to reopen. Closing: Thunder 30 minutes, Lightning 1 hour

FISHING is not allowed at any time from the docks or shoreline. PFDs are mandatory for all boaters to wear between September 15 and May 15.


MISSING PERSONS or ACCIDENTS should be reported to the nearest lifeguard immediately.

LOST & FOUND Theft or other losses should be reported to staff at Beach House and/or Wayland Police.

CONDUCT: The use of the beach areas, facilities, or equipment in a manner that is dangerous, offensive, or hampers the pleasure of the other patrons or violates these rules & regulations is strictly forbidden.  Any VIOLATION of these rules and regulations may revoke the violator’s right to use the Beach for as long a term as the Recreation Department or Commission determines.
