Wayland Announces Community Planning Grant Award

WAYLAND ANNOUNCES COMMUNITY PLANNING GRANT AWARD

Wayland, MA – The Wayland Town Manager’s Office announced today the award of a thirty thousand dollar ($30,000) Community Planning Grant (CPG).  The CPG grant program was first established in 2021 and is overseen by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC).  The purpose of the CPG program is to help provide technical assistance to MBTA communities charged with establishing a new zoning district in which multi-family housing is permitted.

Town Manager Michael McCall stated, “Obviously, any grant award is helpful, however, this grant is particularly useful given the complexities associated with creating a new zoning district of this type.  With that, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize Town Planner Robert Hummel for his work in securing this grant.  The Thirty Thousand dollar ($30,000) grant award will significantly improve a number of key compliance related initiatives.”

The aforementioned initiatives include the following:

  • Assistance w/ finalizing the locations of the multi-family housing or overlay district
  • Assistance w/new draft site plan rules & regulations and proposed zoning bylaw changes for new zoning district
  • Assistance with planning for pre-town meeting forum prior to 2024 Town Meeting
  • Assistance w/ EOHLC’s compliance model
  • Assistance w/ the submittal of the district compliance application to EOHLC

All Massachusetts Cities & Towns designated as “MBTA Communities” under Section 30A of MGL c.40A must comply with the regulations by December 31, 2024.  Communities that fail to comply with the Act by this date will be ineligible for any further state grants.
