Please see below their message on protecting our Town's Water Quality.

Help Protect our Water Quality

Rain runoff collects pollutants as it travels across the landscape before entering our storm drains, where it ultimately flows to nearby water bodies. While the Town is employing innovative strategies to understand and manage runoff at its source, you can be a good neighbor to our local waterbodies with a few easy eco-friendly habits:

  • Pick up your pet’s waste – it carries bacteria into brooks and streams!
  • Bag your grass clippings in the spring and do it again in the fall with your leaves. The Town’s Transfer Station accepts this waste from its Sticker Members.
  • If you fertilize, test your soil and read the label before your application – use sparingly!
  • Have your septic system pumped and inspected as recommended to protect your family’s health as well as the health of the environment. Watch out for warning signs of a failing system such as odors, wet spots in your yard or sewage back-ups in the house!
  • Learn more about helpful hints along with the Town’s Stormwater efforts by visiting both www.thinkbluemassachusetts.org and the town of Wayland Stormwater Management Webpage
