Wayland Honors All Who Served with 2021 Outdoor Veterans Day Ceremony

The program will include a Keynote Address, given by Wayland resident, Commander Paul A. Rufo, USN RET, followed by a presentation of Wayland’s Freedom Prize to recent Wayland High School graduate, Jason Haims.

The Wayland Veterans Day Ceremony – hosted by the Wayland Public Ceremonies Committee – will be held outside (rain or shine) at 11:00am on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at the Wayland Veterans Memorial (Wayland Town Building, 41 Cochituate Road, Wayland, MA).

The program will begin with a performance of The National Anthem, sung by Wayland native, Victoria Gitten, and accompanied by Adam Kurihara of Wayland’s Trinitarian Congregational Church. The Posting the Colors and Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Wayland Boy Scout Troop 1 and Cub Scout Pack 1, followed by an invocation by Rev. Rebecca Cho of Wayland’s United Community Methodist Church.

Welcoming remarks will be offered by Richard P. Turner, USN RET and Chair of the Public Ceremonies Committee. The Keynote Address will be given by Wayland resident, Commander Paul A. Rufo, USN RET, followed by a presentation of Wayland’s Freedom Prize to Jason Haims, recent Wayland High School graduate and freshman USMC ROTC Midshipman at Cornell University.

The names of those that appear on the Veterans Memorial – who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the Town of Wayland and their country – will be read by members of the American Legion Post #133 and members of the Public Ceremonies Committee, followed by a Rifle Salute, wreath-laying ceremony, and the playing of Echo Taps by members of the Wayland High School Band. The Veterans Day Ceremony will conclude with a benediction.
