Wayland Announces Start of Council on Aging - Community Center Project (Revised)

Wayland, MA – Today the Wayland Town Manager‘s office announced the execution of a completed contract with Tower Construction Co. of Cranston, RI to begin construction of the Town’s new Council on Aging & Community Center project (COACC).  The completed contract represents the culmination of many years of hard work invested by countless volunteers and community leaders.  The new COACC will be constructed within the shell of an existing building located at 400-440 Boston Post Rd., Wayland, MA 01778 which is in the vicinity of the Town Center commercial complex.

Town Manager Michael McCall stated, “Since 2014 and even earlier, the Town has worked tirelessly to take ownership of this building and create a design that reflects the needs of a modern COACC within budget.  I believe that this contract represents the achievement of both these goals.  I truly think that once completed, this will be a Town building that will improve the quality of life for the people of Wayland, particularly for our older residents and our youth.”

Council on Aging Director Julie Secord added, “We are thrilled that this project is underway. The new facility is designed to help us better meet the needs of Wayland’s seniors, and will allow the COA to expand the range of programs and services we offer.”

Tower Construction Co. is slated to begin work in December 2023 with a construction schedule that is estimated to last 12– 14 months. The Town will be assisted by its hired Owner’s Project Manager (OPM), City Point Partners of Boston, MA.
