Special Town Meeting, October 3, 2012

A petition containing the required number of validated signatures from citizens requesting a Special Town Meeting to be called within 45 calendar days was filed on August 22, 2012.  Two proposed articles were submitted with the petition.  The Board of Selectmen has scheduled the Special Town Meeting on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at 7:30 pm at the Wayland High School auditorium.  Under state law, the Warrant for special town meeting was opened for seven calendar days to allow any citizen or town board the opportunity to submit an article for consideration by the town meeting.  Selectmen opened the Warrant beginning Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at 8:30 am through Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at 4:30 pm.  There are a total of seven articles to be considered at the October 3, 2012, Special Town Meeting.

The Board of Selectmen will conduct the Special Town Meeting Warrant Hearing on Thursday, September 27, 2012, in Town Building.  The Warrant Hearing is an opportunity for the public to discuss the content of the Warrant and to ask questions of officials and sponsors about the articles and resolutions that will be considered at the Special Town Meeting that will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 7:30 pm at Wayland High School.  The Warrant Hearing is not, however, an opportunity to debate the merits of the articles or resolutions.  Petitioners and representatives of town boards and committees which have submitted articles for consideration for inclusion in the Warrant should attend the Warrant Hearing.  The hearing will begin at 7:00 pm.  The Warrant should be received by each household by postal delivery on Wednesday or Thursday, September 19 or 20.  Copies of the Warrant will be available on and after September 19 in the Town Building.

Because of the requirement under state law to hold a petitioned special town meeting within 45 days of the submission of a petition, town officials are under extremely tight deadlines to comply with town bylaws governing the content and delivery of the Warrant.  Therefore, the Finance Committee will make supplemental comments on articles and resolutions after the publication of the Warrant.  This additional information will be published on this site not later than September 25, and copies will be made available in Town Building after that date, at the Warrant Hearing, and at the Special Town Meeting.
