Responsibilities

The Town of Wayland Facilities Department is responsible for the coordination and care of all Town-owned buildings and surrounding property, inclusive of those under the control of the Select Board, Town Manager, Library Trustees, Board of Public Works, School Committee and the Wastewater Management District Commission.  All costs for maintenance and project management, utilities and building rentals are contained within this department.  Public Buildings Director Kenneth "Ben" Keefe annually recommends capital projects to maintain all buildings in a condition suitable for their intended use.  The Facilities Department administers a Facilities Master Planning Process with the Town Administrator and the Superintendent of Schools.

Duties Include:

  • Capital improvements and planning;
  • Maintenance of the Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan;
  • Custodial care/cleaning;
  • Landscaping and pedestrian snow removal for all school property;
  • Maintenance and repairs of all Town-owned property;
  • Management of most vendor contracts;
  • Utility negotiations and energy management;
  • Payment of all facility-related vendor invoices;
  • Payment of all Town utility bills;
  • School building rentals;
  • Compliance with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Procedures for Procurement of Goods, Services, Design Services and Construction under Chapter 30B, 149, 149A, and 30/39M for all Town projects and services.

The Department oversees large and small renovation projects and new facility construction, supplying project management and administrative support as required.  The new Department of Public Works Facility at 66 River Road opened officially in June, 2015, and came in under the amount procured at Town Meeting.  The Facilities Department is currently overseeing the Ameresco energy-savings projects and solar projects, the Claypit Hill Windows Replacement Project, and other projects in Town.  Assistant Town Manager John Bugbee, now oversees procurement for the Town.  There is a separate page for the Procurement Department.
