Fire Details

When is a Fire Detail required?

Fire Details are required at locations involving the following:

  • Welding, cutting, and other hot work
  • Blasting
  • Fire watch – when work is being done on a malfunctioning fire alarm or suppression system
  • Cannon or mortar firing
  • Motion picture and television production locations (usage of pyrotechnic special effects or other hazards)
  • As required by the department as a condition of permit issuance

EMS Standby Details can be requested for different events like sporting events or large group gatherings where having a qualified and equipped EMT on site is beneficial.  

Scheduling a Fire or EMS Detail

We ask that detail requests be submitted by 1:00 pm two business days before the work or activity is to take place.  To request a detail, complete the Private Detail Request Form and email it to the Fire Chief.  In the case of an unexpected (emergency) detail request, please call the fire department at 508-358-4747 and ask to speak to the Shift Officer.

Canceling a Fire or EMS Detail

The deadline for canceling a Fire or EMS Detail is 24 hours in advance.  Cancelations submitted less than 24 hours in advance  will require payment for the detail.  To cancel a detail, call 508-358-4747 and ask to speak to the Shift Officer.

Detail Cost and Payment

Fire and EMS Details are billed at a rate of $55 per hour with a four hour minimum Monday through Saturday.  The rate for Sundays and holidays is $60 per hour with a four hour minimum.

An invoice for the detail will be forwarded to the address provided on the Private Detail Request Form.  Payment by check payable to “Town of Wayland - Fire Department Detail” is required within 30 days of the detail.
